Our Vision
The Future of Sustainable Business
the future of sustainable business
We’ll see an enhanced circular usage of products, from an uptick in eco-conscious CPG companies, to sustainable hardware models (hardware purchase like Tesla with software upgrades/subscriptions). As a society, we’ll experience a shift to shared resources (companies like Rent The Runway). Regenerative agriculture will rise in popularity.
A Societal Shift To Shared Resources
As we become more conscious of the harmful impact of trends like fast fashion and behaviors like overconsumption, we hope to see a shift toward shared resources.
We envision a world where sharing is the norm — not just through services such as Uber and Airbnb, but also with tangible belongings like furniture, tools, clothes, and more. We hope to see more companies like Rent The Runway, that simultaneously democratize access to high-quality products and encourage the reuse and sharing of resources.
We also believe that access should be more equitable, so we hope to see more initiatives that make ownership and rental models accessible to everyone.
Circular Usage of Products
As climate change progresses, it is increasingly important to be conscious of our use of resources and how they can be used sustainably.
A great way to achieve this is through a circular economy, which encourages the reuse of materials and products as much as possible. By creating products that are designed with repairability and reusability in mind, companies prioritize sustainable practices while also saving costs on production.
We hope to see a world where stores don’t just contain dozens of newly packaged products, but there are refill stations for your favorite brands of detergent, shampoo, dishwasher soap, and other products.
In rethinking the business models around CPGs, we can also consider subscription-based models with complimentary refills of your favorite products. In the context of hardware products, we hope to see eco-friendly financial structures with a base payment for hardware and installments for continued access to software and component upgrades. By focusing on replaceability, we minimize waste and promote a long-term relationship between the user and the product.
Not only does an eco-friendly, subscription-based model increase customer lifetime value, but it also heightens the barriers to exit and encourages customer loyalty as new products enter the market.
